WHAT’S WRONG HOUSE?
Wrong House is a publication for design writing with guts. It is edited by Lila Allen. Each month, we take on a theme that examines how we live and make today. Issues include reported features, personal essays, memes, annotated floor plans—whatever best gets the idea across.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH MY HOUSE?
Nothing at all. We love your house.
WHO WRITES FOR YOU?
We publish new and established industry writers, along with design-adjacent voices. Our contributors so far include: Sarah Archer, Diana Budds, Jesse Dorris, Elizabeth Fazzare, and Kel Rakowski.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU PUBLISH?
Wrong House publishes magazine-style monthly “drops,” and then emails stories each week—with occasional bonus content along the way.
DO YOU PAY YOUR CONTRIBUTORS?
You betcha.
IS THIS THING FREE?
Most of it, yes. But if you want to see Wrong House thrive—or just want to see what we can do with a little extra fuel—consider becoming a paid subscriber. You’ll get perks like exclusive content, event invites, and more. We’re completely self-funded at launch.

WHO IS LILA ALLEN?
Rude of you not to know already. I’m a design writer and editor based in the Hudson Valley. From 2021 to 2025, I held a senior editorial role at AD PRO, Architectural Digest’s digital vertical for the trade. Prior to that, I have held positions at Metropolis magazine, Rockwell Group, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I’ve also contributed work to the New York Times, Interior Design, The Architect’s Newspaper/AN Interior, The Slowdown, and other outlets. I have a design monograph forthcoming in Fall 2026 from Monacelli in partnership with The Slowdown. I attended the SVA’s Design Research, Writing, and Criticism program, and while there, earned the Monotype Scholarship for Excellence in Design Criticism and the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award. On a non-design note, my husband and I run a record store called Freakout Spot. Fun!
WHO DID YOUR LOGO?
The GOAT, Rob Vargas. You can find more of his work here. ⌂
